Hitman game confuses Anita Sarkeesian

Dear Anita “I’m a games expert” Sarkeesian, if you haven’t noticed by the title, game is about a person whose job is being a hitman. And people who have job title “hitman” on their business card tend to use brutal methods to eliminate their targets. Blades, poison, piano strings, bullets from sniper rifle, bullets from a silenced pistol, you name it. If you want to kill someone, you have to disrupt their critical natural bodily functions. Best way to do that is by inflicting severe direct or indirect damage. Maybe you should read a book or two about biology and human body anatomy instead of marketing and quasi feminism.

And here we have this self proclaimed gaming expert who gets all confused about the purpose and meaning of the game named Hitman…

Here’s a hint from dictionary…

hit man

or hitman

noun, Slang.

1. a hired killer, especially a professional killer from the underworld.

That’s like being all confused and offended because game “Need for Speed” doesn’t contain any gardening mechanics (other than doing donuts with your Porsche in someone’s freshly mowed front lawn). Or how a game named “Command & Conquer” doesn’t contain any clothes fashion and styling mechanics. Or how game “Soldier of Fortune” has no cute and colorful fluffy characters wandering across colorful rainbow worlds.

How dumber can you become Anita? Jesus christ, hamster running across keyboard randomly would convince me with its gaming credentials faster than her. And people still take her seriously when she talks about games and gaming. She has absolutely no clue about gaming and games. Not because she’s a woman and not because I’m a misogynist, but because she’s posting stupid shit like this.

Anita Sarkeesian the Supreme Butt Commander

At first I was having really hard time figuring out how to pour response to her idiotic video “Strategic Butt Covering” into a written form. Most Youtubers already did that through video responses (obviously), but since I’m not running Youtube channel, I have to work it out here. Damn you 1Mbit upload!

After figuring out the format for this response, I had to figure out the title. It has to be clickbaity and yet strong and empowering. After all, Anita Sarkeesian is the supreme commander when it comes to decisions what peasants can or cannot consume in games. This time in epic battle for butts freedom in games. She can take our male protagonists, but she will never take away female butts! Nevah!

Spending too much time designing butts

Lets start with her first usual target. Lara Croft…

Her objection is that developers spend too much time designing female butts. But she’s forgetting one HUGE thing. We all have butts. Unless she wants to play with a character that has an empty void below the hips area, you HAVE TO give character a butt. After all, it’s a human and as human, it needs to have a butt. I’m sure there may be people who are without butts, but we’re not going to venture down that lane…

Secondly, like so many times, she has yet again shown she has absolutely no clue about game design. She says developers have spent excessive time designing Lara’s butt. Reality is, only difficult thing about creating butts is the fact that in-game character has three joints (both legs + torso twist) in that part, meaning model has to be crafted in such a way that motion looks natural and you don’t get any polygon mesh distortions when character is moving into various poses or stances.

Developers spent far more time designing Lara’s eyes for a single game than they have ever spent designing her butt in all Tomb Raider games combined. Anita will of course say otherwise, but the fact is, eyes are far more complex and a lot more difficult to design. Unless if you don’t mind your character looking like a zombie which got bashed in the face with a shovel. They also spent more time designing her boots, her hair, her belt. Pretty much everything on her requires more design time than her butt. But hey, I have all the confidence in massive game design knowledge Anita has and that she knows what wireframe model even is.

Third person camera exists to observe butts

Anita is shocked that character in 3rd person games is in the middle of the screen where butt is centered for maximum male pleasure. Opposed to what, having Lara on the bottom left corner with camera focusing on the right side? Of course the character is in the middle of god damn screen. When you’re running and jumping around in this game (and you do that a lot in Tomb Raider) it is not only desirable, but highly preferable to have character in the middle of the screen so you are aware of your surroundings at any given time. That’s why camera also pans backwards when you run forward, so that your field of vision is wider, allowing you to see EVEN MORE of the butt, em, I mean world on all four sides of your playable character at high speed. Jesus, if Anita ever actually played a single bloody game as a gamer and not as a god damn perpetual whiner, she’d know that.

And out of all games, she picks Tomb Raider 1 game to whine about the camera angle. Ahaha, she picked the game that was the most criticized for it’s stupendously placed player camera view in history of all game series. And that trend continued through several Tomb Raider games. I’m quite confident that all of you gamers who played Tomb Raider games remember stupid camera deciding to focus on Lara’s face, her back at distance of 10cm so you couldn’t see past her body, her boobs, basically every single body part and angle other than at the gap you wanted to jump across. It was the never ending battle with the camera to have it where you needed it. Focused at the gap to jump across and no the gap between her butt cheeks. Of course it was never improved much until around Tomb Raider The Legend where they sort of got it right. Great selection there Anita, you really proved the point here XD

Unrealistic sexualized clothing

She also had to brush against usual “sexualized” and revealing selection of clothing picked for Lara by the designers. Never mind she’s usually running across tropical locations where long thick coats aren’t preferable clothing of choice. When Lara is exploring cold locations, she’s wearing this…

Oh. That’s it? A casual winter jacket and brown pants? I am disappoint. I wanted her in a thin tank top and shorts. Oh well, maybe some other time.

Dat hip sway yo!

Next offender is Catwoman. Meow!

Anita is most offended by the hip sway done by the Catwoman. I mean, not that she’s being (or at least thinking she is) a cat and all that, but that hip sway though! Bitch, haven’t you ever seen nigga dudebros? You should see their hip sway as they walk down da hood!

Cinematic experience versus butts

Here, Anita is offended by the cinematic camerawork of the game designers. Here, camera pans from 3rd person overhead angle down between her legs to show enemies in front of the protagonist before you go into a battle. Because butt is in between, the camera captures her butt for a fraction of a second. Quickly, wash your eyes with bleach because you shall unsee that booty. Dear Anita, this is something gamers as well as developers call cinematic experience. Instead of just throwing you into the battle, there is some camera work to make things more dynamic. I mean, developers could focus on those trees on the left side, but that wouldn’t be all that interesting, wouldn’t it? I mean, compared to a camera panning that ends up showing enemies between her legs that is.  And it wasn’t anything sexual at all, just a simple camera panning that stops at a point shown on image above. There was not even a pause or slowmotion while it was passing her ass. Omg, booooring.

Even more butts!

What, you thought we’d be over with Lara Croft and Tomb Raider? It’s just to perfect to attack!

“To say that Lara’s butt is being emphasized would be putting it mildly.” Yeah, this is actually what Anita said, transcripted from her video. For fucks sake, Lara is on a god damn boat, wearing swimsuit. Game wasn’t focusing on her ass, you were Anita. Yes, you were deliberately pointing camera at her butt. Something game NEVER does on it’s own because such camera angle is absolutely useless to put it mildly. Just because you focused ALL your attention on her butt, that doesn’t mean everyone does. And even though I find her body design appealing, I’ve never specifically focused camera at her butt. And I’m a straight cis white male. You know, the one that supposedly observes in-game female characters drooling like someone who has never heard of Pornhub before…

Or this scene where camera revolves around Lara while she is describing historical facts about the location while she is staring at the walls of the temple. Again, only thing Anita is concerned about is Lara’s butt. Never mind the fact that her butt is not in the center of the screen, that actual focus is on the temple ruins and that all this exists in a game for better CINEMATIC EXPERIENCE. For god sake, do you even know what cinematic experience is? Yes, they could be just showing the walls of the temple within the frame, but that’s something developers were doing in the early 90’s. This game is from 2008. Just like movies moved on from static recording of Charlie Chaplin getting a guy slipping on a banana peel to current heavy story driven drama or action movies with amazing camera work and effects with deep characters. This is no different. Technology moved on, game design has evolved and having Lara walking across newly explored temple, narrating history facts to what looks like audio recording device while camera is revolving around her is there not to maximize male pleasure and gaze at her butt, but to create an atmospheric cinematic experience to the player. It’s dynamic, it’s different than player controlled parts and mixes an interactive game with movie sequence, rendered with the game engine itself. Butt being there on the screen is just a convenient reason to bash something you clearly don’t understand. Am I right Anita? Of course I am. I know what I’m talking about.

He… Hehe… Hehehehehe 😀

The conspiracy of hidden male butts

At this point she throws so many examples of developers deliberately hiding male butts that I’m unable to post so many screenshots.

She seems to be the most offended by the fact that 3rd person camera work for male characters is focused above waistline, over the shoulder and never at the butt. Of course, this has to be patriarchal conspiracy to hide male butts and prevent women to have their pleasure in games. At this point I actually agree with Anita (yeah, it even surprised me), male characters having same 360° camera view including their butts would be better from a gameplay point of view. So you’re not limited to a specific angle, but you could actually rotate camera anywhere you’d want without getting obstructed by some invisible waistline “off limits” zone. Just for the sake of having ability to observe at the world easier, nothing else.

Again, never mind all the boring costumes male protagonists wear. From long grey coat and baggy jeans in Watch Dogs to some generic looking armor in Binary Domain or another grey coat in Alan Wake. Even those that are kinda cool like the Assassin’s Creed 1 protagonist costume of the Order, guess what, women in that Order are wearing the exact same clothes. Sure they aren’t player controlled since they are NPC’s, but they wear exact same clothes. I could be talking out of my butt here, but last time I’ve played AC1, I’m pretty sure I’ve seen female assassins wearing same clothes. Hate me all you want, I’m not a huge fan of Ubisoft and I just can’t be bothered at this moment to re-play entire AC1 just to verify this.

Anita thinks this is intentional. The fact is, this is how men dress. Games just emulate what we observe in real world. Long shirts and sweaters, baggy pants, long plain coats, this is what men wear.

However, if you look at what women wear in real world, well, you’re in for some surprise (well, not really) that goes against entire Anita’s narrative. Women in real world mostly wear tight jeans, contouring tights, tight(er) training pants, tight(er) tank tops, T-shirts that follow the female body contour, even the pants that are somewhat baggy seem to always be tighter at the upper end and then loosen up as they go down the legs. It’s not an evil patriarchal design forced onto women by men. It’s what women like, what women want and it’s what women themselves design for other women.

So, to make things more interesting, developers add dynamic elements to male clothing. Like capes, wide strips that fall down the butt and move around when character is running. Or the moving coat in Max Payne. There is nothing appealing at looking skinny flat ass found on most men. That’s why developers just don’t bother. Because it’s pointless to waste time on something no one is interested in looking at. But coats, capes, various costume accessories that are moving dynamically as you move around, they add some flair to otherwise static and boring male characters. I mean, men usually have short hair as well which doesn’t move at all. All female characters usually have pony tails that move around, entire longer hair moving according to real physics or just strands of hair falling down the face and moving according to player character motion. Hell, I still remember part of a belt on Nilin’s dress in Remember Me that was swinging around according to her motion. tiny detail that I memorized because it someone actually spent time designing such tiny insignificant thing to look realistic in motion. Women have so much more dynamic features that make characters more lifelike and here is Anita bitching because the only things men can have dynamic and moving are freaking coats and capes that happen to cover their butts as a result. Seriously? Bits of fabric tend to fall down because that’s what gravity does. You may want to pick up a piece of fabric and move it around. You’ll notice that it always falls down. Behold Anita, physics! Games have it for years…

What feature on Batman is dynamic that would make him more lifelike? Not a single damn one. Everything on him is absolutely static. No hair that would move around, no breasts that would bounce around, no butt that would jiggle around, all poor Batman has is his black cape and here is Anita trying to take it away from him. No! Enough is enough.

Well, until I’ve stumbled across this image…

Look at that fine Spiderman’s ass. No cape, no strands of fabric strategically covering his butt. Spiderman is so progressive. Batman should learn a thing or two from him!

Women like other women’s butts

Anita was still rambling about butts like they are the only thing that makes up game characters, so I just skipped across this boring whining sequence and found out the video ended. Thank god, I was getting tired of watching her stupid bored face and listening to her annoying monotone voice reading from a teleprompter. Every time I hear her talk I remember Mika Hakkinen when he was talking in interviews. I have absolutely no clue why, I just do…

Anyway, Anita is again ignoring another very important fact. While a common misconception goes that men like to watch female butts only and women like to watch male butts only, the reality is a bit different. Men indeed like to watch female butts. They just look sexy. No denying of that. But here is a kicker. Women actually prefer butts of other women over male butts. It’s the same phenomenon with breasts that was also tested by Mythbusters (S14E05, Laws of Attraction episode). Both sexes preferred larger breasts, but women actually tipped Kari more than men did when she was “wearing” larger breasts. And exact same thing goes for butts. Rounder, sexier butt will be more noticed by other women than men. They may not show it in such an obvious way as men do… I don’t know why is it this way and what kind of thing women are internalizing in this case, it’s just how it is.

Fiction, do you even…

Oh and lastly, so much hatred and blood shed over some fictional virtual sexy women. It’s all fiction. If game developers decide Lara to run half naked across Arctic, then so be it. If they decide to dress a dude in a long winter coat while placing the game setup into summer time LA, then so be it. If they design her to have a jiggly ass that is perfectly focused in the middle of the screen, then so be it again. When someone is almost pathologically obsessed with depiction of fictional in-game characters like Anita Sarkeesian is, I’d ask them to visit a psychiatrist. Seriously. Just play the damn games, enjoy them and stop dissecting them. If you’ll do this, you’ll just end up looking like Anita. This morbid, bitter person that can’t find joy in anything because everything is sexist, everything is oppressive, everything is misogynistic and everything is patriarchy. It’s just stupid.

And that super annoying cherry picking just makes you look like an absolute hypocrite. I’d probably even be willing to have a dialogue to potentially change games, change characters, their appearance and behavior. But when you see how dishonest Anita really is and how all she actually cares about is her agenda to portray all women as these helpless perpetual victims and to scam more funds from people by just flat out lying, you just can’t take her seriously at all.

Only reason why I even respond to her propaganda bullshit is because I sure as hell won’t just stand by and be quiet while she’s wrecking hobby loved by millions of boy, girls, men and women, just the way it is. Every time i say t myself, this is the last time. But I just can’t be quiet. I can’t and I won’t be. I’ve grown up with games and I want others to experience them in the same uncensored non-puritanical way as I have.

Anita thinks MRAs and atheists are cute

Are you really accusing MRA’s and atheists (what the fuck have atheists to do with gaming?) of not being gamers? Newsflash Anita, I’m both. MRA and atheist. But firstly, I was a gamer. My passion for games predates advocacy for men’s rights and atheism. I was a gamer first, someone who still has very fond memories of spending my childhood with my sister, playing games together on one PC. We used to play Worms, Need for Speed, Atomic Bomberman etc, all the most misogynistic games imaginable. So take this tweet, hold it firmly and shove it up your rear. It’s exactly where it belongs.

You are the LAST person to preach to us about gaming. You played what, Super Mario once, 20 years ago and you were showing off your stack of Xbone games (console peasant heh…) once and you think you all of a sudden have the voice to talk over us who are gamers, day after day through the entire year for 20+ years?

Respect and knowledge in gaming is earned, it’s learned and any real gamer can sniff out phonies like you in under a minute through conversation about games. Fucking hell, even Colbert got you in under 10 seconds when you couldn’t name 3 fucking games. It’s a bitch talking about games without a teleprompter isn’t it? Especially if you’re not really a gamer… Guess what, it’s not for me, because I’m a real gamer, I know games I play well and I even extend my interests to games that aren’t my cup of tea and I can talk about games for hours. And if you think you can just walk into the gaming scene and just expect everyone to respect you with the knowledge and respect you’ve shown to gaming… I can only laugh at you.

We have NO respect for you and it’s NOT because you’re a woman, it’s because YOU have no respect for gaming industry or the people in it. You’re the one constantly throwing nasty accusations at us wrapped in fancy high-flying selection of words. You’re the one constantly twisting facts to make us look bad, to make us look like monsters. You’re calling us sexist misogynist. Do you know how painful that is for me to listen day after day where in reality, I respect women as much as I respect myself if not even more? You apparently have no idea how horrible that feels like.

And I just remembered why you hate atheists…

Atheists never listen and believe. Atheists listen and question everything. That’s why you don’t like them. They are the ones who listen to your manure and then do research, find out you’re a fake and then they spread that info online. And you hate it when your shitty narrative is crumbling like a fine china in a car crusher…

Do you know who you are Miss Sarkessian? You are a bully and a harasser. You’re a perfect definition of those assholes. You injected yourself into gaming industry, into gaming scene with sole purpose of harassing everyone who doesn’t bow down to your totalitarian ideology. So don’t fucking preach to us how to be a gamer. Just listen and believe, because we are the gamers. Far more than you’ll ever be.

FemFreq: My mentions are train wreck of misogyny

No Anita, this is a train wreck that keeps on delivering. And you’re the one driving it XD

I could go in length explaining it, but someone already made a meme that absolutely perfectly describes your behavior…

Yes, the lady in pink shirt with giant earrings is you Anita (dunno if that’s intentional or just a coincidence). You’re shuffling stupid accusations of misogyny and toxic masculinity to the internet and when opinions from others return back, you start screaming misogyny. It’s EXACTLY like that!

No one has ever said you’re not entitled to opinions, because you are. Anyone can freely express an opinion on the internet. However, opinions usually start with: “My opinion is…” “I believe…” or “I think…”, what you’re doing is making factual statements (well, I’m being very generous with the word “factual” here), you’re making them look like they are factual even though pretty much all the gamers and academic papers have proven otherwise time and time again. And despite all that, you’re still shuffling your manure to the internet and then screaming misogyny when it returns back… WHY!? When I make a statement and I’m proven wrong, I will not keep on posting it further. So, why are you doing it? I think (see, opinion!) it has nothing to do with woman’s rights and feminism and has a whole lot to do with the rustling of Benjamins…

Fallout Shelter is sexist and misogynistic

This one will be a bit longer, but I still won’t cover it under Political Correctness because its just so much stupid from twitter it just belongs here. I’m not even going to bother to archive.is these tweets, there is no way on Earth anyone would make up this much of condensed stupid and pour it into tweets. XD

When woman has drastic mood swings, is hysterical and irrational due to fluctuations in hormone levels, it’s not reinforcing of sexist ideas, it’s just how female body behaves in large majority of cases when it is pregnant. It’s not harmful, it’s not sexist, it’s just how it is and it doesn’t affect just humans, same can be observed with animals as well. And when you require a certain type of consistency and behavior at work, sometimes things like this aren’t wanted. Just like it’s not wanted for me to argue with customers, just like it’s not wanted for me to browse on my phone constantly during work time and just how it’s not wanted for me to treat customers badly just because I have a bad day. Also, academic, peer-reviewed citation needed on how it “reinforces” anything. You’re just asserting it does, but we won’t just “Listen & Believe”…

How is it “super troubling”? It’s a fucking game with a comedy factor. But just like McIntosh, you had fun once. And it was problematic. Of course the primary way to progress is impregnation of women. Have you missed the game title? It’s FALLOUT SHELTER, meaning the world has gone to shits and it’s up to few people from the Vaults to repopulate the world. I also love your twisting of words there. It’s not “increasing population”, it’s “impregnation of women”, like it’s a rape simulator (which it isn’t) or something. Besides, have you missed The Sims games from 15 years ago? They too required you to make a baby in order to progress further at one point. In later games it even became an integral part of the gameplay because that’s how you made several generations of your Sims. Again, academic, peer-reviewed citation needed on how is this “super troubling” and how it affects real women (or people in general for that matter).

We’ve already established that hormone levels do affect behavior of women during pregnancy. It’s not a stereotype or something I made up. It’s scientifically proven that hormone level changes affect behavior. So, we are talking about facts here. How are facts harmful? Also, how is running away from danger a bad thing? Like any living thing, self preservation is an integral part of our life. More for some, less for others, but we all without exceptions strive for survival in one way or another. It’s wired in our instinct. Again, scientifically proven. Flailing their hands around, for god sake, it’s a game with comedy factor. People also run around, make funny screams and jump away in a comedy fashion in an old game Midtown Madness when you try to hit them with a car. It’s called a “comedy factor”. Something anyone knows what it is, but it’s not like you have fun often or anything…

Oh my god. Stop using gaming/games terminology if you don’t even understand what it means. Childbirth in Fallout Shelter is NOT a game mechanic, it’s an end result of a game mechanic. Game mechanic is to try to get a lady to fancy you, flirt with her and then make babies with her to repopulate an apocalyptic desolate world. It’s a simplistic comedy game to waste time when bored, it’s not meant to be a fucking child birth simulator for education of real medical staff. Jesus Christ, how much stupid can you compress into 140 characters!? Again, I love your way of twisting words yet again, portraying women as these helpless creatures getting savagely impregnated by men in order to produce an army of babies and how this dehumanizes them into baby factories.

Dear Anita, this is how you see this game. How everyone else see it is that it’s a comedy game where men and women flirt with each other, have sex and make babies. There are no hidden messages, no hidden agenda, no hidden sexism, no hidden perpetuation of anything. It’s just a fucking game to waste time. But like everything else, we know you and your pal Jonathan McIntosh have enormous problems separating fictional things from reality…

Sure, games affect us too. Just like every single event in our life, be it positive or negative. But the level at which games affect us have been proven by academic, peer-reviewed science to be negligible or in some cases even more beneficial than anything else.

Stop using words like: “sexist idea”, perpetuates, reinforces, “super troubling” and dehumanizing if you don’t provide ANY academic evidence to back up those words and claims. If it’s troubling for you and not for everyone else, that is your problem and your problem alone. Stop making it like it has to be a problem of everyone else too.

At this point I will quote a very smart man Christopher Hitchens and his even more famous Hitchens’s razor:

What can be asserted without evidence can be dismissed without evidence.

The burden of evidence is not on us to prove the games are not sexist and misogynistic, the burden of evidence is on the accuser. Yes, YOU Anita Sarkeesian. So stop throwing around assertions and start providing academic evidence to back up your empty claims.

World science studies all the most bizarre things one would never think anyone ever bothered to study, so there is absolutely no reason for you not to provide academic evidence to back our claims. And no, citing your own article as academic evidence is not a proof of anything. We are waiting…

Arkham Knight is a misogynist game

Of course darling. The Arkham Knight treats women incredibly badly. We just need to shuffle through piles of beaten/dead male only enemies till we can get to the “problematic” part where Catwoman is a “damsel in distress” or something…

She is doing the same shit again as she was doing with the Hitman Asbolution. Conveniently ignoring piles of male victims and focusing on one or two women who get the supposed “bad treatment” in a game. With your cherry picking skills Anita, we could increase fruit gathering rate by 300%!

Twisting gender statistics with colors…

This fancy graph makes you believe only 9% of games have playable FEMALE character.

Lets look at the statistics twisting of “feminists” again. Breaking down this fancy graphic reveals things are far from bad for the gender diversity in games… Nice selection of pink for the FEMALE entry btw. Makes it stand out nicely…

13% of games have NO MALE/FEMALE protagonists (animal characters, racing games, strategy games etc)

9% have FEMALE only protagonists

32% have MALE only protagonists

46% allows player to play as EITHER MALE OR FEMALE

Now here comes the fun part which is simply ignored on the fancy graph because it kinda destroys the diversity narrative. Anita, you’re rubbish at math…

55% of games give you playable FEMALE protagonist

78% of games give you playable MALE protagonist

So, you can play as female protagonist in more than half of the games and “feminists” like Anita Sarkeesian find this to be largely “problematic”. Excuse my ignorance, but what do you want? Do you want 100% of protagonists to be female ONLY because that will somehow make things more diverse? Do you want to impose retarded gender quotas in games as well just so we meet that artificial sweet spot of 50:50? Do you want to make all games gender insignificant by making protagonists male or female selectable, removing any possibility to make a strong story driven game? Sure, in most cases it doesn’t matter, because the game is generic and you can just throw in either, but when you want to build a game with story that creates a whole new universe, then you create a massive problem with that. The story needs consistency, needs to draw parallel lines with our real world even if it’s fictional, because that fires up emotional part of our mind and it’s very difficult to make that if everything is generic and interchangeable. But you wouldn’t know anything about that since you’re neither a game developer or a gamer…

Sure there is 23% difference in favor of male protagonists, but let’s be serious here, that’s hardly an “alarming” difference.

Also another fun statistical number to finish this off…

100% of games don’t have to be bought if you don’t like them 🙂

Long study concludes, games do not cause sexism

Study title:
Sexist Games=Sexist Gamers? A Longitudinal Study on the Relationship Between Video Game Use and Sexist Attitudes.

Link to the abstract of this study:

Department of Psychology, University of Cologne , Cologne, Germany .

From the oversexualized characters in fighting games, such as Dead or Alive or Ninja Gaiden, to the overuse of the damsel in distress trope in popular titles, such as the Super Mario series, the under- and misrepresentation of females in video games has been well documented in several content analyses. Cultivation theory suggests that long-term exposure to media content can affect perceptions of social realities in a way that they become more similar to the representations in the media and, in turn, impact one’s beliefs and attitudes. Previous studies on video games and cultivation have often been cross-sectional or experimental, and the limited longitudinal work in this area has only considered time intervals of up to 1 month. Additionally, previous work in this area has focused on the effects of violent content and relied on self-selected or convenience samples composed mostly of adolescents or college students. Enlisting a 3 year longitudinal design, the present study assessed the relationship between video game use and sexist attitudes, using data from a representative sample of German players aged 14 and older (N=824). Controlling for age and education, it was found that sexist attitudes-measured with a brief scale assessing beliefs about gender roles in society-were not related to the amount of daily video game use or preference for specific genres for both female and male players. Implications for research on sexism in video games and cultivation effects of video games in general are discussed.

Bottom line?
While we don’t have access to full study (yet), the abstract of this peer reviewed study from a reputable German university clearly explains that games do not cause sexism regardless of genre of the games, gender of players or the play time amount.

Dear Anita Sarkeesian, Jonathan McIntosh and other pseudo science “games cause sexism and misogyny” bull manure scammers, this is what we’ve been saying the entire time. Stop spreading lies, because no matter how many studies they’ll make, the conclusion will always be the same. GAMES ARE NOT THE REASON FOR SEXISM.

Why We Must Take Action – Rant on Modern Feminism by Mercedes Carrera

There is not a single point I disagree on with her. That’s how things stand in the modern feminism era, this very moment we are living in. Some fictional threats made on stupid social networks by bored kids are of higher priority than actual rape victims. Feminists will support you, but only if you’re the right kind of woman. Well that’s really nice of you… If you aren’t the right kind of woman, you get ignored and dismissed as nobody important, And I have a great suspicion it’s this way because of Cytherea’s career as a porn actress. She’s a woman and a human being for Christ sake, she deserves to be treated like one regardless of her work. Cytherea’s assault wasn’t even covered by any general media outlet. Just Google it. Like it didn’t even happen. And on the other side, you have all these professional victims claiming how terrified they are over some fucking tweets and unverifiable rapes that most likely never really happened, with tons of media coverage on TV, internet, newspapers etc. Like Mercedes said, wake the fuck up!

And while it’s horrible to get raped randomly somewhere outside of your house, imagine how horrible it must be, if it happens in your very own home. When even your own place which you think is a safe haven, gets violated. And not just that, there were kids and husband who could just helplessly observe the whole thing. Imagine how traumatizing that has to be for the entire family. There just aren’t words that can properly describe these despicable acts and the trauma they had to go through.

While Mercedes’s main focus was on feminism and Cytherea in the above video, it also brings in the GamerGate to some extent as she went to rant about it, because the very same general media that refused to cover Cytherea’s assault has derailed the entire GamerGate movement into the whole “gamers are sexist, misogynistic rapists” nonsense, glorifying these “social network victims” and ignoring actual real victims. Sure I don’t support harassment over the internet, but for fucks sake, stop blowing it out of proportions. If you can just block that annoying person, how is that a horrible traumatic event? Cytherea had no BLOCK button when those psychopaths attacked her in her own home. A very different cases aren’t they?

And what was the most heart touching (along with Mercedes’s speech) was the way how GamerGate community responded. There was an already ongoing fundraiser made by Joclyn Stone (you can still donate till end of March 2015) for Cytherea, so not a GamerGate initiated fundraiser. Mercedes Carrera (as a GamerGater) raised a voice within GamerGate community saying: “Hey guys, here is my comrade worker from the porn industry who got sexually assaulted in her home, would you guys help me get her back on her feet?”

The response from GamerGate community was incredible. I think it was under 24 hours, when the fundraiser was successfully funded and is still going strong. And the most vocal anti-GamerGate, pro-women feminist opposition that supposedly helps women just went to full radio silence and did NOTHING. I know this will sound like we are trying to take advantage of Cytherea’s horrible event to boost GamerGate voice, but the general media only prefers to make sensational news on negative accusations being thrown at GamerGate and gamers, but they conveniently forget to mention that this very same group of “misogynists” helped a real rape victim. FOR REAL. Among tons of other amazing fundraisers to help women and people in need.

We aren’t the bad guys, we are just gamers and a bunch of people who on contrary to general belief actually care about women and fellow human beings WAY more than media wants you to believe. GamerGate is still primarily a movement for ethics in gaming journalism, but since general media has mixed feminism and all the other nonsense into it, it is what it is now. I just have a strong feeling GamerGate will have to extend into ethics within general media journalism as well, because just like gaming journalism, it too seriously lacks ethics and moral values…

I know I just duplicated quite some points that were already made by Mercedes, but I just felt like I had to pour my thoughts onto “paper” using my own words. I also wish Cytherea and her family all the best and I hope she’ll get well after this horrible experience.

Just don’t play it, if you don’t like it

ban_gamesSo, based on your “I’ve pulled this one out of my rear” fact sheet, if I just happen to dislike turn based games, because I prefer things moving in real-time with very limited amount of time for thinking on my next move, I have to not just simply “not play turn based games”, I must go on a crusade to make them disappear. Eradicate them from existence. Just because I personally don’t like them. Because they are harmful to a fluid way of thinking and will make people pause for infinite time before making decisions in real life. BAN TURN BASED GAMES!!!

Woman, what the hell is wrong with you? Just because you don’t like something, that doesn’t mean no one else does. Stop harassing and bullying others for liking things you dislike.

Not to mention there is not a single academic evidence that playing violent games and games with sexy women makes me or anyone else any more violent or sexist. To me, the only aggressor here is you, enforcing your own shit believes with zero academic evidence and data on us who mind our own business playing computer games that we like.

And guess what, we are still kind human beings who respect women. But we don’t respect hypocrites like you Anita Sarkeesian. Stop spreading lies and misinformation…
