Recently I got attention to another case of metric ton of bullshit, yet again by Epic Games. All of a sudden they’ve decided NO ONE can use Epic Games Store using ProtonMail. If you happened to register with it weeks or months ago, you can still ahve it, but if you want to migrate your account from data hoarding GMail to ProtonMail and change your e-mail address in Epic Games Store to ProtonMail address, you simply can’t.
The response to user who wanted to change his old e-mail to ProtonMail on Epic Games Store.
For internal security reasons, we can’t change your email to an email with the domain you requested. Please provide us with another email address.
I understand your concern about changing the email to the same domain, however, our system does not accept that type of domain anymore. I will gladly change it to a different email but it has to be a different type of domain.
For internal security reasons, we can’t change your email to an email with the domain you requested. As player support we are unable to accommodate your request as they do not fulfil our security measures.
Original post by user on Reddit:
Epic, you can just quit your sorry ass bullshit excuses of “security reasons”. Somehow ProtonMail, a service with most rigorous encryption and security that prevents tampering or external access is not secure enough, but GMail which is combed by Google’s scan bots for user data is somehow perfectly secure. Yeah, fucking sure.
This blanket banning of whole e-mail provider domains is ridiculous and needs to stop. Deviant Art pulled same bullshit sometime ago if I remember correctly. And they all pull this shit because they are lazy and incompetent. And they can afford pulling stunts like this because it’s a smaller provider. They can’t pull this shit with gmail.com because whole world would whoop their ass for it. But they know ProtonMail userbase is too small to cause a bit enough outrage. Well, lets make sure we make a big outrage over fuckers screwing up with privacy.
Post about it all over the interwebs and share with other users. Especially if they are ProtonMail users or they plan on using it. Or just if you want people to be able to use any e-mail and not have whole domains of providers banned. Because such behavior is ridiculous and inexcusable.
