Vivaldi browser forums are run by fucking morons

So, few days ago I gave Vivaldi 2.0 browser a try, because I tried early versions and it was just too basic and lack of Sync was a huge no-no back then. It’s now generally pretty good, but still has tons of really weird design decisions so I wanted to help by giving feedback and telling them what should be improved and changed to make it better.

And that’s when the real shitshow began. Everyone started jumping on me like I’m taking away their fucking candy even though I clearly stated I don’t want things to be taken away, just changed by current settings still being available as an option in settings. After several posts of fucking defending myself for posting a honest feedback because you know, you want fucking browser to become BETTER.

So, today I posted a feature request for something, you know, like people there asked me to do and some moderator named Pesala whose IQ is apparently of average temperature in Siberia moved a browser feature request into Forum Feedback section and commented it with “uh oh tone down your language”. Nigga, what the fuck do you want from me? Are you retarded? I posted a feature request where you asked me to and described it as it is. The feature is fucking insufferably annoying and named in such retarded way it’s a fucking miracle anyone ever manages to find it. But who gives a shit about that bullshit annoying feature when someone’s fucking feelings got hurt. Fuck you, you retards at Vivaldi forums. Someone comes there with good intentions of making browser better by giving well meant feedback and everyone fucking curls up into fetus position because some fucking words hurt their feels.

I’m not Vivaldi’s enemy, their own fucking dumb fanboys are. So, good luck Vivaldi team, you’ll need it when you’re surrounded by morons like that.

I’ve deleted Vivaldi from my PC the moment this fucker banned me and I can say with 150% assurance I won’t be installing it ever again. Or recommending it to anyone. Excellent job Vivaldi forum moderators, brilliant work you’re doing there. Dumb fuck.

Don’t even bother with Vivaldi, go with Firefox or Opera. Far better browsers and their community actually fucking listens when you have suggestions or criticism and they don’t lose their fucking shit because someone said something over their fucking love child.

  1. It is no surprise that other Vivaldi users replied to your first post on the Vivaldi forums in the way that they did. It was full of errors and strongly held opinions. The Vivaldi Team always encourage feedback, even if it is critical, but other users don’t need your negativity.

I can tell from the profusion of f-words on your blog, that you do not care about being polite. Honest feedback can be made without being offensive if you care to try. It is not hard to tone down your language to be less confrontational. You will catch more flies with honey than with vinegar.

I see no good intentions at all in your contributions so far. I did not tell you to post a feature request. Other users may have done. I advised you to vote for existing requests, to ask about how to modify Vivaldi, and to submit a report for the trivial bug that you reported. In fact, I reported it for you, so you don’t need to bother.

I misunderstood your rant about renaming the “Accent Color from Active Page” so I moved it elsewhere. The admins moved it back again, but you should fix the offensive language and tone of your “request,” to make it look more like a suggestion than a demand. If you insult the devs calling it a “Silly naming decision” why would they even listen to you? I would just ignore you.

Because I moved your latest Feature Request in my haste this morning, it deserves a reply. Your mistake was to rant about moderation so you got suspended and I flagged your post for the attention of the Admins, who restored it to the Feature Requests forum.

Good luck with finding the perfect browser to replace all the others that you apparently detest. We all miss Opera Presto, but it is past its use-by date.

    1. Vivaldi community manager reached out to me, apologized and asked me to come back as they value my feedback. At least someone has priorities set right to place product quality before feels.

I use the word fuck generously here, almost exclusively under Rants section because my readers aren’t some weaklings who implode into fetal position because of some stupid words. And you’ve yet again proven YOU are the problem and your stupid perpetually offended attitude. If I say something is named silly, you shouldn’t be fucking offended over it, you should ask yourself why I said that. And it IS named silly. But you’re more worried over words offending you than feature being named silly and positioned in idiotic location within settings. Priorities man, priorities. It’s silly on a level of calling car a “four wheeled device controlled by steering wheel” instead of calling it a “car”. I’ve been posting feedback like this for well over a decade and no one ever had problems with it. No one was offended. They just took the info and made best of it (which means they used it as an improvement). And my ideas ended up in programs used by hundreds of millions of users like for example avast!. But today, it’s this stupid climate of ppl being fucking offended over dumb shit non stop is just infuriating and a miracle anyone manages to do anything without offending everyone somehow. And calling something “silly” is perfectly polite when it is silly. I could call it “dumb”, but I toned it down. This feature is annoying as hell and finding settings to turn it off is next to impossible. I bet most users just say fuck this shit and use something else, I actually took time to give feedback on it. If you expect everyone to ask on your forums about it, then that by itself is a proof you failed at the design decision. Features need to be self explanatory and in locations where you expect them. If tabs are changing colors per webpage content, of course you’re gonna look for it under Tabs settings. But it’s not there. It’s under Themes. And not even directly visible, you need to clone the theme and then it appears. That’s just idiotic and there is no other polite way of describing it. I’m also developer and many times people called some things I made as “dumb”. Instead of being offended I asked myself, are they? And often they were right, so I tried improving the feature. Sometimes any kind of comments spark brilliant ideas and that’s why I’m doing it. Then it’s up to devs to decide what to do with it.

Oh and I could be a prick and just delete your comment here just like you banned me instantly on the Vivaldi forums. But I like to argue with people when I know I’m right, so I’m leaving it here. Also, this is written on phone’s tiny screen so it might look like inconsistent rambling, but I think I got my message across even with that.

  2. You have a lot of strongly held opinions, but that does not make them right. After a decade of software development, you should have learnt by now that it is counter-productive. It is the behaviour of a spoiled millenial, not that of a developer with a decade of experience.

At least 99% of users manage to request a new feature without calling the devs silly or idiotic. If you find such trivial issues “annoying as hell,” I wonder how you manage to deal with something really serious.

The mods at TechPowerUp finally had enough of your behaviour. I am less tolerant than most of bad language and rudeness. You would not last a day on my own forums, but the Vivaldi Team, who are trying to win over new users, are frightened to say boo to a goose.

    1. Dude, I called a feature silly, not the devs. LMAO, learn to read. And those aren’t opinions, they are straight up facts. Some shit flashing in your face is not minor inconvenience, it’s a big thing. After searching how to disable the damn thing I found tons of people hating that damn thing. But what do I know right? XD

I learned that worst thing is being a god damn fanboy. Just telling how things are is the best approach. Defending something endlessly just because you like it is the dumbest and most damaging thing.

As for TPU, you don’t know jack shit about that. And they are now plagued by same shit as Vivaldi forums. Sensitive snowflakes on all ends who get triggered by regular conversations. Sad shit.

  3. RejZoR, you called the decision silly. The naming decision was made by the devs, and the location of the setting was made by the devs.

“I couldn’t find it thanks to silly name decision… I finally found it in a spot where no one would ever look for it.”

So you did eventually find it, but could not find it at once due to being new to the program.

Whilst I agree that it is hard to find, that’s not unusual in complex software programs that one is using for the first time. I have used Firefox a few times for testing purposes, but I still cannot find the settings that I am looking for easily.

Had you tried other themes while running through the Welcome setup screens you would have noticed the Subtle, Beach, Light, or Dark themes that are not so much “in your face.”

Yes, we all know that there is still a lot to do after some 3 years and 8 months of development. Compared to Firefox 62 and Opera 56 (the first release was version 15 in July 2013), Vivaldi version 2.0 is the new kid on the block since January 27th 2015 when the first Technical Preview was launched.

    1. Lol? So, because devs made it, none shall criticize it. I can’t even… And calling something silly when it is, is just that. A statement that many things are wrong with it without calling it “a total fuckup”.

And using “so, you eventually found it” as an argument. A whaaaaat!? There is nothing complex about it if you place a setting for Tabs under TABS section in the settings. If it’s for tabs, you place it under Tabs. If it’s about Panel, you place it under Panel. And you bloody call it with a less stupid name. I don’t care who came up with it, you, Vivaldi devs or Jesus himself, that doesn’t change the fact naming convention for it is idiotic. And I don’t give a flying fart whose feelings I hurt by saying this. It’s just a reality whether you like it or not. “Accent color of Active page”. Accent color of what? Where? It doesn’t say anything until you actually click it and you see interface change. You have to be purposely guided there by another person, otherwise you’ll never find it on your own. If that doesn’t rings any bells for you, then you’re not the right person to have this kind of debate with (hint: you clearly don’t understand it). Now, if you call it “Adaptive Tabs Color” and place it under Tabs section of settings, user sees tabs changing color on their own and doesn’t like it, first thing you naturally do is go to “Tabs” section of settings. And if you’d see there a setting named “Adaptive Tabs Color”, it’s literally 3 basic words that are perfectly describing it. Adaptive means something is changing according to some other parameter. Tabs are tabs and color is color. There is nothing cryptic about it.

I’d really like to hear what was the settings in Firefox that you couldn’t find. Firefox has a different problem and that’s lack of any kind of communication with people. Contacting their support is next to non existent and so called “community” basically only exists on paper. There is Bugzilla which is incredibly clumsy system to report problems. They are lucky to an extent that they do a lot of things just right so you adjust to them a bit and it’s fine. Mostly. The latest redesign made quite a lot of things a lot worse with a lot of unnecessary submenus and buttons.

Vivaldi unfortunately doesn’t do a lot of things right out of the box, but has the luxury of giving feedback relatively easy. If someone is willing to read it without being offended by every little shit, PROFIT for everyone!

  4. If you learnt to read you would understand why the accent colour is an attribute of the Theme that affects more than just the Tab Bar (e.g Bookmarks Bar and Status Bar). Moving the Accent Colour to Settings, Tabs, and renaming it to “Adaptive Tabs Color,” would not improve matters.

However, that’s why they have a Feature Requests forum where users can post their suggestions, and other users can upvote them or comment to refine the idea or critique it.

    1. It would, because even Themes menu itself is designed bad while we’re at it. It should only be a profile saver/changer for themes that would parse parameters from other settings sections and store them under user specified profile. So, you’d adjust everything the way you want it, go to Themes section and save that as a theme under name of your choice. And when you select a theme, it would fill in previously saved parameters. So, all the Accent things would actually be under Appearance and Tabs where they belong.

  5. I agree withe the OP.
Developers almost always defend to the death their creations.
Sure they say feedback is good but asking them to evaluate the feedback is like asking a fox for a security rating on a henhouse.

  6. @Peter Oh Not one developer replied to Rezjor’s first post. All of the replies were from other users and volunteer moderators like myself.

User iAN CooG wrote about getting rid of the search field in the address bar (shown by default):

“I beg to differ, I like to have 2 different search engines ready, and use other engines with nicknames only when needed. You can deactivate it if it doesn’t fit your needs. Vivaldi is about configurability, it’s good to have more options.”

    Moderator Ayespy wrote:

“You can convince mods and users that you feel the product is massively defective, with no positive outcome, or you can take effective action (posting one feature request at a time or upvoting existing ones) that will naturally offend no one, and stands a chance of getting your preferences heard.”

Moderator Pafflick wrote (about accent colour):

“I beg to differ on that one. Everyone is different, it’s obvious that not everybody’s gonna like it.”

    and

“The developers are constantly working hard on the browser. Your mere complaints are not helping in any way. So, what’s the point?”

The Video popout feature is now available with Picture-in-picture if sites enabled it.

    1. You clearly didn’t even bother to read what I wrote on Vivaldi forums, you instantly flipped into full on defensive mode. If you actually read what I wrote you’d see I talked about DEFAULT OUT OF THE BOX setup which should eliminate those features. Which doesn’t mean they are gone, it just means they aren’t enabled by default. But you instantly freaked out and went all defensive like I was going to take away your toys. Even though your toys would still be there, just not enabled by default. But you apparently don’t seem to understand that difference.

  7. @RejZor I was talking to Peter Oh in reply to his statement about the Developers defending to death their creations. The developers are very open to feedback.

Not one user has upvoted your feature request yet. Perhaps it is not as good an idea as you think it is? That’s a rhetorical question. No answer is required. Just reflect on your behaviour if you want to help rather than hinder the developers.

I read everything that you wrote in your first post, and replied to each point. I just don’t agree with you. For example, IMO the search field should be enabled by default so that new users learn about it. I prefer the keyword search in the address bar, but I have been using Opera since the version 5.0 and Vivaldi since the first technical preview.

The default theme looks good on this site, but not so good on Vivaldi’s site. When all is said and done it is only views and opinions. Not something that is either right or wrong. The Welcome screen offers different themes from which new users can choose one that they like, or they can edit one to create their own as I have done.

Most of the other points you made was just restating well known issues like the incomplete Sync feature and customising of the UI that are work in progress.

Had you searched and asked before posting, you could have avoided the negative feedback that you got, but do not heed.

    1. Gee, I wonder why I got no upvotes. There seem to be two groups of people there. Fanboys, (you lot) and people who came there, got attacked by you lot and gave up. So, basically it’s just you ppl there. Besides, who the fuck even uses “accent” to describe fucking anything in any browser? Use simple English to describe shit is like the second rule when doing interfaces. “Accent” ain’t one, “Color” is. But again, what the fuck do I know, right? Because when I want to change annoying flashing tab (and window) COLOR, the first thing I’ll look for in settings is word ACCENT. If you don’t sense the absurdity of it yet, then there’s no help to you or your fanboys on the forum.

      1. Dude, talk about a sensitive snowflake… you created an entire post about something that offended you in some forum.

As for your suggestions, they aren’t even consistent design. If things are supposed to be easily discoverable, then having the search field on by default makes sense, not what you suggest.

I’ve never seen someone so butthurt about their experience in a forum that they go off and create an entire blog post about it. Actually, no, that’s not quite accurate. You’d be good friends with ripster.

And if I want to dedicate a whole fucking blog post to it, I fucking can. And have. Next.
