Solving WMI EventID 10 and CAPI2 errors…

Are you getting bunch of retarded WMI and CAPI2 errors in Event Viewer (only there, you won’t see any on your desktop) on clean install of Windows 7 SP1 ? It was pissing me off until I made a thorough search and research and found out the solutions.
I’m still not sure what were they smoking at Microsoft when they decided logging this would be cool…

Anyway, lets go to eradication of these two stupid errors to make things a bit cleaner, so you can actually use Event Viewer to log and analyze actual errors. Not garbage like these two…

WMI – EventID 10 error

Log Name – Application
Source – WMI
EventID – 10
Level – Error
User – N/A
OpCode – Info
Task Cat – None

Event filter with query “SELECT * FROM __InstanceModificationEvent WITHIN 60 WHERE TargetInstance ISA “Win32_Processor” AND TargetInstance.LoadPercentage > 99″ could not be reactivated in namespace “//./root/CIMV2” because of error 0x80041003. Events cannot be delivered through this filter until the problem is corrected.

SOLUTION (KB2545227)

Log Name – Application

EventID – 4107

Failed extract of third-party root list from auto update cab at: <http://www.download.windowsupdate.com/msdownload/update/v3/static/trustedr/en/authrootstl.cab> with error: A required certificate is not within its validity period when verifying against the current system clock or the timestamp in the signed file.

SOLUTION (KB2328240)

Just download both Fix It packages and run them. They perform the fix automatically.
I hope this will make you sleep a bit easier today
